Costa Maya, Mexico
Chris Bell
Costa Maya was beautiful. The blue green waters looked like they were right out of the Corona beer commercials. The shopping center off the pier is perfect for people who really do not want to stray away from the boat. They even have a pool to swim in for free, as well as beach chairs. When you stray away from the pier, a darker side emerges. Costa Maya is still waiting to be built into a great tourist destination. The pier is about all they really have so far. Hotels and other structures are beginning to be built; however the people and their homes look very poor. The military presence made a fellow traveler mention flashbacks to Vietnam as we passed housing structures that resembled tin sheds as well as people walking down the road bare foot carrying Machetes. I don’t want to scare anyone away from this port. I thought it was the most beautiful of all the beaches I saw. I ended up at the Tequila Beach Resort for a mere $20. This included open bar and free food. The shuttle service was only $3 each way to get there and well worth it. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice beach to chill on for the day.
