Joe Ciardiello The port is similar to EPCOT. It is a fake, made-up Mexican village consisting of stores, a pool, an outdoor amphitheater, and bar or two. On the left side of the pier is the fake village. On the right side (not associated with the fake village) is a rocky beach with a small spit of stand to throw a blanket or rent a chair. It is a dump. After spending one week on St. Johns USVI several months ago, we spent five minutes here and left. We thought of visiting a Mayan ruin but that cost $45/person ($180 for four) in the fake village. Booked on the cruise ship the trip would have cost $280 for four. We took a cab ride into the sleepy village that I forget the name of. This was also a dump. Walk down the street and everyone is trying to sell you their junk. We sat at a bar on the beach about the size of a one car garage with just a roof, a half-wall around it and swings for chairs. Then we rented two ATVs for $20 for fifteen minutes. The kids had a blast. We also found out a cab could be had in the town for $110 to see the Mayan ruins. How do you like that, we go from $280 to $180 to $110 ($130 if you include the taxi fare for four into the town). The moral here is don’t book the shore excursion.
