Dominica Shore Excursion Review

Mr. Kelly Shannahan - Salisbury Cruise Club

If you’re ever in Dominica, I strongly urge you to take a tour with Lybos Tours. They’re the best! We have toured with Lybos three times now, the latest being in June 2004 and our tours just keep getting better and better. On our latest tour, Lybos took us to the rainforest to view and take a dip in the Emerald Pool (which is simply gorgeous). On our way back, Lybos stopped at a roadside produce stand where we were treated to fresh fruit and island lore from a most colorful character named Mr. Nice. Afterwards, we stopped to go tubing on the Layou River (this was a special trip that we arranged in advance and brought our own inner tubes, so it may not be available).

After a quick stop back at the ship, Lybos took us to Champagne Reef for some of the most unique snorkeling in all the Caribbean. After a short walk across the rocky shoreline, we donned our snorkeling equipment (everyone brought their own) and ventured out to swim in the bubbles of the Champagne Reef. Swim out from the shoreline and about 50 yards to the left to find the bubbles (or just follow the tour groups who arrived by boat). We were also treated to schools of squid and several other colorful fish and interesting coral to view while snorkeling. If the water is rough (if waves are crashing on the beach), it can be a bit cloudy and not quite as good. If it’s rough or if you’re just not into snorkeling, Lybos can take you to Trafalgar Falls in the afternoon instead of Champagne Reef.

Now for the best part, Lybos only charges $25 per person for this all-day tour. These same tours combined would cost three to four times that much if purchased on board the ship. A Great Tour at a Great Price! Now you know why we always look for Lybos when we visit Dominica. To book Lybos’ Tour, just look for him holding his “Lybos Tours” sign on the pier when you get off the ship. Tell him that Kelly from the Salisbury Cruise Club recommended him and you’ll get the VIP treatment. Enjoy!
