Grand Cayman Port Information and Shore Excursion Reviews

Nicole Long

This was definitely our favorite port, thanks to Captain Marvin. I had read nothing but good things about his company and it definitely lived up to all the raves I had read about it. You are not smart to book this excursion through Carnival. For one thing Captain Marvin is WAY cheaper and so much less crowded, plus you get so much more on your trip with C.M. We booked online and received a confirmation email telling us where to go. We walked about two blocks from the ship’s port and found it easily. We checked in and paid for our excursion. We booked the half-day excursion, which took us to two different snorkeling places and then to the stingray sandbar. This costs $39/person, a great deal! We took a nice bus with about 20 other people to their inland area. We got a nice tour of the island on the way there and the hurricane damage from last September was crazy. When we got on the boat there were about 30 people total. Again, they took us to two different snorkeling places (which Carnival doesn’t usually do) and when we were there, our tour guide took squid with him and found two nurse sharks and two eels, which was AWESOME to see. Wow!! The snorkeling was so cool; we actually saw a stingray when we were snorkeling! The stingray sandbar was awesome. The water is like 3-4 feet deep and you’re in the middle of the ocean! It was kind of creepy at first because all of the stingrays rub up against your legs because they’re hungry. However, they are the friendly creatures ever and I didn’t want to get back in the boat. We got to feed them, pet them, kiss them, hold them! It was an experience I’ll never forget. We passed the Carnival excursion boats and I was SO glad I wasn’t on there. They had 2-3 times as many people and they were all just packed like sardines on their boats. No thanks! The other plus, was there was a scuba diver from VIP productions that videotaped our whole experience for that day. The DVD was pretty expensive ($55 + $5 shipping) but totally worth it too me and I can’t wait to get it a watch it. So you might consider that when you do your budget for the trip. In all, I would HIGHLY recommend this trip, it was definitely the highlight of ours and Captain Marvin is the best (captainmarvins.com).
