Labadee Hispaniola Port Review

Robert C. Alcorn

The pre-tour information says Labadee, Hispaniola, using the generic term for the island occupied by Haiti and the Dom. Rep. I figured this was done so as not to scare people away from booking a cruise to Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere. It was our favorite spot on the trip. The peninsula of Labadee has five different beaches, and many aquatic activities to choose from. The ship catered a wonderful lunch to everyone. There is a small Haitian market where you can buy native crafts. The vendors were not overly pushy, and very willing to bargain. We took the kayaking tour which took us up close to the nearby fishing village (as close to the real Haiti as you can get). We learned quite a bit about the history and culture of Haiti, and it was worth the money.
