Martinique
Brandi Czajkowski
The
most picturesque island of them all, but by far the rudest. People did not
want to help you at all and they barely spoke English. We walked from the
cruise terminal to the water ferry. The ferry then took us to the other
side of the island where we went in search of a beach. Found some, but
they all said private. We finally found a public beach and felt very out
of place there. No one spoke any English at all. It seemed like a local
hang out with no tourists. We then went back to the private beach area
which belonged to La Kalenda hotel. There we found our fellow cruisers and
could enjoy ourselves. The beach was just gorgeous. We had to be back on
the ship by 1:30 and thought we had plenty of time until we tried to get
the ferry back. The boat that brought us over was now sitting in a dock
space getting some engine work done. We asked when the next ferry would be
and he told us 10 minutes. When it came, they told us we had the wrong
tickets and we could not get on without paying another fee. They told us
our ferry would be coming in 10 minutes. This happened four times, our
ferry never showed up. We were getting a little worried however since we
had to be back on the ship in 30 min. Finally, we told the guy working on
our boat that we had to get back to the ship because it was leaving. He
begrudgingly took us and about 20 other passengers back after some
yelling. We made it back, but I do not recommend the SomaTour Ferry to
anyone. They were terrible. Our experience on Martinique was less than
desirable. I will never come back here again.
