Montego Bay, Jamaica Port Information and Shore Excursion Review

Sally Rajnoha

The first was Montego Bay, Jamaica. When we got off of the ship, it was kind of creepy because there were armed guards. We decided to take a bamboo raft trip on the Great River. Although we probably only went about 1 mile down the river, they managed to drag it out to about three hours. That was after the scary bus trip to get there. The raft captain was nice and they stopped along the way and gave us flowers and coconut juice. My friends’ captain stopped and someone came up and offered them drugs. My other friends’ captain kept telling them how poor his family was and how they worked for tips. The scenery was very beautiful and it was peaceful and relaxing, except for the mosquito bites I got. (I was the only one in my group who got chewed up by mosquitoes).

After the raft trip we listened to a man talk about the local products and watched another guy climb up a coconut tree. Both mentioned tips. After we got back to the pier, the bus driver took us to Margaritaville for lunch. We each paid her an additional $5.00 to take us there and pick us up.

If you like really loud music and crowds, you’ll like Margaritaville. I thought they’d be playing Jimmy Buffet music but instead it was awful techno and hip hop music. I was wishing I’d stayed back on the ship. We wanted to get souvenirs but it was terribly crowded in the tiny store.
