Montego Bay, Jamaica Port Information and Shore Excursion Review

Bill & Michele

After spending 2 full days out at sea we arrived at Montego Bay. Here we decided to do the Mountain River Rafting excursion. This was a major disappointment. To get to the river we rode a bus for about a ½ hour ride from the port. The bus ride was fairly comfortable and air-conditioned. When we arrived at the river we began our raft ride on a bamboo raft made for two people and the captain of the raft. Unfortunately during our rafting adventure we spent more time pulled over next to peddlers begging for money than actually rafting down the river. After the raft ride we had to check out Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville being Jimmy’s fans. Once again we were disappointed because we were hoping to at least hear some music similar to Jimmy’s lyrics, but instead heard some loud pop music. This establishment also didn’t seem very well managed. The service was not all that great and it was rather messy for an eating establishment. In summary if I had another port call in Jamaica I would probably stay on the ship. I did notice the day we were in port the Conquest was the only cruise ship docked. Now I know why.
