Nassau, Bahamas Port Information and Shore Excursion Review

Caroline

We’ve been to Nassau before, but this time we did it on our own without shore
excursions and had a great time. We spent the morning shopping in the straw market and
got a great deals. We went back to the ship for lunch and then our group went separate
ways. The first group went to the beach. Taxi’s to the beach are about 6$ a person. We
had heard about the Jitney buses so decided to catch one. We walked passed the straw
market and pass Senior Frogs made a left and stood in front of the McDonalds across
from a big yellow hotel. I think it’s the British Colonial. The bus came in just a few
minutes. It’s the #10 jitney and goes to Cable beach. The Jitney only cost a dollar, but
you do need exact change. The bus dropped our group off in front of the Crystal Palace.
Here they were able to walk right through the lobby and relax on their beach and use their
lounge chairs for no charge. Drinks were available as well as jet skis and parasailing.
They also had a really nice pool with a water slide that they used. Much better than
paying for a 70$ beach excursion day. The Jitney also picked them back up in front of the
hotel. The second group went to Stuart Cove. Here, we tried their discover scuba course.
This was the best part of our trip. The Stuart Cove bus picked us up right outside of the
pier. The staff at the dive shop were very friendly and helpful. They gave us instructions
on the way to a shallow sight where we practiced before the actual dive. The instructors
were very patient with everyone and made us feel very comfortable under the water. The
30 foot dive was awesome, we were under for 45 minutes but it goes by so fast!! If
anyone is planning to dive in Nassau, beginner or not I would highly recommend them.
Our ship was in port late, but we did not get back off after dinner. Our last trip we did get
of in the evening and headed to Atlantis. We did not have to pay anything to get in the
Dig. We also gambled a little with no luck.
