We were in Ocho Rios in May, 2005, and I had to write about Lobster Dave.
We had read reviews on this site, and we made our way through
Margaritaville to the beach. Margaritaville was not our cup of tea.
Frankly, when you're inside it feels like any theme restaurant you'd find
anywhere else in the world. If I'm in Jamaica, I want to feel like I'm in
Jamaica!
So we walked down to the beach, and a local took us to Lobster Dave (we
walked up the creek with him yelling "Lobster Dave"!). It was great back
there--there was a tall privacy fence. On one side was Margaritaville, and
on the other side was us. I almost felt sorry for the people on the
Margaritaville side; they didn't know the treasure they were missing out
on.
We dined on lobster with rice mixed with pumpkin and coconut milk. Lobster
Dave was a great host, and we sat around and talked with the local
fishermen for quite awhile. They really seemed to appreciate that we had
stepped outside of the tourist bubble and decided to hang out with them.
