Joe Ciardiello After Belize and Cozumel, the beach visible from the pier did not appeal to us. So, we opted for a tour of the closest Mayan ruins that are called Dzil (something). We arranged the tour after getting off the ship. A cab for four (roundtrip, the driver waits) and private tour of the ruins cost $87. We tipped the guide $7 and the cab driver $10. Otherwise, the cost was $70 ($50 for the cab, $20 for the guide.) Meanwhile, our fellow cruisers booking through Carnival, took a bus, toured the site en mass, couldn’t leave or go as they pleased, and paid $49/person for the privilege. I don’t know that I personally saved any money as my wife took the “savings” and went shopping.
