Progresso Port Information and Shore Excursion Reviews

Lorne Torres

In Progresso we signed up for the Dzibilchaltun & Rodeo show. This excursion was wonderful. First they take you to the Dzibilchaltun ruins where you get to walk in, on, and around this ancient city. The tour guide we had was great. Always answering questions, keeping the pace, and could tell enjoyed his work. Another thing that was amazing was the acoustics of the ruins. How things echoed off of each other even in its incomplete state. The Mayans were a very intelligent race of people. After the ruins they take you to Rancho Tierra Bonita for lunch and a show. The lunch was out of this world. Absolutely delicious. They had the usual rice and beans and a few chicken dishes, something similar to enchiladas, soup, fresh tortillas (not the flour made garbage they sell in the USA), fresh salsa, and hot sauce. You get two free drink coupons (for beer or soda) and unlimited trips to the buffet. After lunch you are treated to a Mexican rodeo show with Charros. They had dancers, a singer, a mariachi, and the lasso wielding charros. The service was outstanding during the lunch and the whole performance. They go out of their way to please you. I even had one of the workers take a picture of the wife and I with one of the cowboys. The Rancho was beautifully decorated as well, hence the name.
