Roatan, Honduras Port Information and Review

Buck

Based on a couple of other reviews, we emailed Victor Bodden about a week before the cruise and were able to book him because another tour he had scheduled cancelled out. The guidelines say not to mention addresses, but try his name at yahoo.com and you’ll get him. He doesn’t check it every day, so be patient. He met us just off the dock. There were nine on our tour. His taxi only has room for four or five, but he set up a van for us and gave us a great tour. Though the van was not air conditioned, but the weather was cool enough we were all comfortable. Victor is 27 and is a great tour guide and speaks English fluently. He will customize your tour based on what you want to do. You can save a lot of the cost of booking the tours on the cruise. Because of the number we had, it was $20 pp plus tip, far less than any tour from the boat.

We took an island tour and ended up on the West End to go snorkeling. Because the cruise lines have a contract with the resorts on Tabyana Beach, he couldn't take us there. But we were right next to it and were able to snorkel on the reefs out from Tabyana. Victor even got snorkeling gear and led us on a tour of the reefs.

The people on the island are very poor. The cruise ships have only been coming about four years, so it is a now major part of their economy. Every stop we made, we found adults and children selling local handiwork. The coral reefs are also in pretty good shape because the ships haven’t been bringing the throngs down for many years.
