Roatan, Honduras Port Information and Review

Nancy

What a great spot for water sports...we got a taxi at the pier and had the driver for the whole day for $15/pp. paid at the end of the day. I had read about Luna Beach Resort on another port review and I corresponded with them via their website and they had what we wanted.. snorkling, scuba diving, food and nice, quiet beach. Our driver was great, he spoke english and spanish and was very good with the history and sights of Roatan as we made our way to West End to the hotel. Once we got to the hotel we suited up and Marc, our dive master, took us in a boat about 5 minutes off the island to a gorgeous sight, Tabyana beach area. Marc went through refresher diving instructions, and we jumped off... for a real adventure. My husband and I were there to dive and our adult kids did the snorkling. Marc was excellent, he never left my side and my husband, was guided by one of Marc's helpers. Marc was great about taking us on a wall dive and pointing out all kinds of fish and eels. Before I knew it, time was up and we had to re-surface, only to find hundreds of people from the cruise ship on the beach ... what a sight from the boat. We left to go back to the private beach resort where we enjoyed great food, cheap beer, fun company, and a secluded resort with adorable villas. For sure we will go back there for a week of rest and diving. Our taxi driver took us to the highest point of the island on our way back to the ship and showed us some of the sights and homes of the wealthy residents. We even had time for some shopping for the pottery they are known for, and we were back in plenty of time before the ship was ready to leave. Luna Beach Resort was even kind enough to email me and check to see if all went well at the resort and with our diving experience. We hope to stay at the resort in the future. Don't miss this opportunity if you are a diver.. and if not, just the seclusion on the beach from all the other cruise ship people.
