Helen Kolln We decided to do this on our own! We had reserved a jeep thru Hertz in St John prior to taking the cruise also. We took a taxi from the ship to the Red Hook Ferry and arrived in St John only to find that we had NO idea where the Hertz rental place was! After asking around and getting eventually there we found out it was out of a trailer in Cruz Bay…Paris car rental. If you decide to rent a jeep make sure you get directions to where you need to pick it up at LOL…once we got the jeep we just went with our instinct. I had a map of the island from the Hertz and we drove the island. Remember it’s driving on the LEFT side so remember that if you rent a vehicle….lots of HILLS and lots of mountains! The views were astronomical and the best I’ve ever saw. The traffic in St John is nil to none and we found it the best choice to just drive around on. We first drove to the Annaberg and toured the Sugar Mill Ruins. Then we drove to Trunk Bay and did some swimming. After that we drove to Coral Bay and ate at Skinney Legs…of which I heard online to definitely not miss that place. Their burgers are the best in the Caribbean and they lived up to that! We decided to return the jeep early (about 2pm) and caught the next Red Hook Ferry back to St Thomas and then picked up a taxi back to the ship and did some shopping for about an hour. My advice is to definitely get yourself over to St John…rent a jeep and just enjoy your visit. You can go at your own pace..it’s one fee, and there’s nobody else saying where you should go, etc…Plus we saw a lot of wildlife there…goats, a mongoose crossed the road in front of us too! Just our most favorite port of all three!
