Cindy We also didn't book a ship-sponsored tour. We rented a car instead and drove all the way around the island stopping in Marigot and finding a restaurant to eat in. We also walked around an open air market looking for mangoes and sugar apples. (They are in season in October...a not to be missed treat!!!). Then we drove to a beach and snorkeled. We brought our own gear and spent a couple hours swimming, snorkeling and relaxing on the sand. There were maybe 10 other people on the beach...it was a lovely piece of paradise. All the beaches are public....so you can swim wherever you want. Renting a car was about $50 a day and it wasn't difficult navigating at all. It's not a huge island.
